Meet Team England: Stefanie Mainey
Name: Stefanie Mainey
League Affiliation: London Rollergirls
Years Skating: Jan 2007
DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?
SM: I played judo from the age of 3 for 13 years. I’ve always enjoyed sports and played pretty much all of them at school but never excelled in one in
particular.
DL: Why did you want to be on Team England?
SM: Representing your country is a massive honor I can’t wait to go out and make England (and especially my parents) proud. I’m so excited to be taking part in the first Roller Derby World Cup.
DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the top 20 skaters?
SM: Relieved, I had been injured for most of the season leading up to team England tryouts and the coaches decision for the final 20 so I had to rely on my past achievement to be taken into consideration, when I got the email I really wasn’t sure if I would get a spot.
DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?
SM: Kamikaze Kitten, I’ve skated with her for 100s of hours of the last few years and I’ve never seen her approach a single session or drill with anything less then 100%
DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?
SM: You’re only ever going to be player you deserve to be, you need to put the effort in to get the results.
