No Butts About It
Derby to Butt (Plus) is a new Chrome extension that turns all the instances of “derby” on your page to “butt” and “roller derby” into “my butt.” We caught up with Ginger Snap and Joe to find out what inspired them to make this.
DL: What prompted you to make this extension?
Snap: There’s a fun extension that turns “cloud” into “butt” - making all tech talk about data being stored “in the cloud” much more funny. Derby was ripe for a similar treatment. I might have gotten the idea from MercyLess when she said “it’s partly butty out today!” I mentioned how funny derby to butt would be, my boyfriend Joe made it because he’s awesome, then I released it into the wild.
DL: Why would someone choose to install this?
Snap: Because derby. Because butt. Because my butt. Because everyone’s butt.
DL: What’s your roller derby background?
Snap: I was an original member of Gotham Girls Roller Derby, and almost made it to 10 years of skating before I went back to school in May and had to give it up. At GGRD, I wore all the hats including PR and Marketing Director, Vice President, President, Coach, Captain and all the rest of it as most of us do. Also - I served as Media and Marketing Director in the early days of the WFTDA. Joe, the real brains behind the operation, has served as supportive derby widow under the names Banana Joe and Upgraydd.
DL: What’s your next project?
Snap: Next project - Joe is going to make Virtual Shofar and I’ll probably help. I’m working on an audio tour app for NYC’s Governors Island. What else? I dunno. What else is going to be annoying and piss off the internets - derby(butt) or otherwise? I’ll probably end up doing that.
Joe: We are working on a movie about [Snap’s] cat, Wally. An homage to the great Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky (with the working title ‘Walaris’), it explores the futility of our attempts to communicate with Wally, except when we use the Sonic Screwdriver that he loves so much.
