The Big O is a flat track roller derby invitational tournament that features teams that play women's, men's and junior roller derby. The Emerald City Roller Girls host this annual event in Eugene, Oregon. Co-hosting this year was Eugene's men's roller derby league, the Lane County Concussion. After he won this year's Derbylife Photo Contest, we got up close and personal with Masonite Burn (aka Sharkey) to find out more about the man behind the incredible work.

We received hundreds of photos for our 2012 photo contest, and it was tough to narrow it down! We've finally managed to pick ten finalists in each category. Over the next two weeks, you'll have a chance to vote for your favorites in each of our categories. You must be logged into the site to vote.

First up, best hit!

It's that time again! We'd like to recognize all the fantastic talented photographers out there making us derby players, refs, and support staff shine and preserving this moment in time for posterity. We can't wait to see all the incredible photographs of 2012 derby action.

We'll have a run-off among the winners of each category to determine the 2012 Derbylife Photo of the Year.

I am a blocker. I am a winner. I am NOT a whiner. I wear my trucks loose and keep my bearings lubed. I defend my jammer – she who is my sole point scorer. Without points we do not win. Without her blockers, she cannot score, And so I push and hammer my way through the opposing all you can eat blocker buffet. Like freshly born colts, they continue to stand back up. And so I get my fill, gluttonous, bloated by the blockers that offer themselves up for sacrifice.
