The Hydra Never Looked So Good

Two unrelated events in 2007 ultimately led to the photos you see here. In June of 2007, I attended and photographed my first roller derby bout (Rocky Mountain vs. Sacred City). In October of that year, I attended my first artistic nude photograph workshop. I certainly saw no connection at the time.

In fact despite absolutely loving what I saw on the track, I somehow never made it back out to watch roller derby again until my wife became interested in the sport in 2009.

In early 2010, I got up the nerve to ask RMRG's Whipity Pow to pose for a shoot. Much to my delight and surprise, she said yes. Since that time, I've had the privilege of shooting more than 15 members of the league.

Several months ago, I approached Psycho Babble (with whom I'd previously done a shoot) with the idea of doing a shoot with the Hydra (and nothing else). She agreed. It took us a long time to get around to making it happen, but last week, we got it done. (Ironically, our shoot ended up taking place the same week that Suzy Hotrod's beautiful photos appeared in ESPN's Body Issue.)

Anyway, enough history. Enjoy the photos.

Nothing encapsulates the competitive yet sexy spirit of roller derby more than a bunch of naked pictures eroticizing a championship trophy. Not being facetious. Half the derby world would probably hump the Hydra if given half the chance. Nice pics.
