Meet Team Scotland: Rebecca "Lily Lethal" Menzies

Name: Rebecca "Lily Lethal" Menzies

League Affiliation: Glasgow Roller Girls

Years Skating: 4+ yrs

DL: What was your previous athletic background, if any?

LL: When I was younger I swam alot and was a very frequent gym goer until I started playing Roller Derby. I still go to the gym a bit but tend to do more weights work to keep me heavy and strong.

DL: Why did you want to be on Team Scotland?

LL: I never really thought that I'd see a "Roller Derby World Cup" in my skating career so when the opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance.

DL: How did you feel when you found out you had made it as one of the final 20?

LL: When I was selected I was so chuffed. It's an amazing feeling being chosen to represent your country.

DL: Which skater inspires you most, and why?

LL: When I started skating, I went to watch the Glasgow Roller Girls bouts. They were the bouts that gave me my Derby bug so I suppose my heroes are the girls i watched back then. Mistress Malicious, Viper, Betty GoGo, Marla Mayhem...and what's even better is that I get to skate with them now both in my league and in the Scottish team.

DL: Do you have any advice for skaters just starting out?

LL: The best advice i can give to skaters starting out is to never give up. Never think you can't do it, never think anyone is better than you. Everyone brings something unique to the track..it may take time to find it, but it's there..all you have to do is fight through the meh's and the rewards are right around the corner...
