Junior Roller Derby Writing Contest
Listen up, Juniors! We're having a writing contest just for you. You can send personal stories, workout routines, humor, advice, whatever gets you going. The best ones will be published on the site, and readers will vote on their favorites to pick the winner.
The winner will receive a copy of The Roller Derby Athlete and a regular feature on the site.
Submissions must be your own original work.
Send submissions to [email protected]. Make sure to title your piece! Please include a high-resolution photo of you (it can be a derby action shot or just a picture of you) along with permission from the photographer to use it on the site and the photographer's name. The deadline is Friday, August 9th.
Good luck, and happy writing!
FAQ
Q: Is it OK if I've already published my piece on my own blog?
A: Previously published work is OK if you've published it on your own blog, but we'd love to get new writing if you can manage it.
Q: I wrote a piece two years ago when I was a junior, but now I'm not anymore. Is it still eligible?
A: We're defining "Junior" as "anyone under 18" for the purposes of this contest. We'll have more writing contests in the future, though, so keep an eye out!
Q: I wrote a piece that I'd like to enter, but I don't want to have to write a regular column if I win. Do I have to?
A: No, you definitely aren't committed to writing a regular feature, but we hope you'll want to!
Q: May I submit more than one piece?
A: One submission per person, please!
Q: Why are you doing this?
A: We want to make sure we're representing as many derby voices as possible on this site! Also, we think you'll have some really interesting stories, and we'd like to read them.
