Great news for female athletes!

The Lingerie Football League is rebranding itself as the Legends Football League and actually (gasp!) letting its players wear real uniforms and protective gear now.

Apparently, people actually ARE interested in female athletics. At least, that's what I have to assume this means. Somehow, I can't imagine that the Lingerie Football League made a decision that wasn't motivated by the potential for profit.

Instead of jerseys? And they still don't get to wear pants? Sigh.

I think they mostly just changed the word "lingerie" to "performance wear", without actually changing the clothes at all.

And I think even the Vagine Regime would have issues with this continued lack of pants.

One of my good friends from grade school plays for the LFL. I asked her why put yourself in the outfit? The simple answer was that she just wants to play football on a high level with full contact and the outfit is just that. Some girls don't care as long as they get to do want they want. We may see it as objectifying women, but until they make the next leap, they feel it is the best way go get fans seats and hopefully fans realize the athletes under the booty shorts. Go for the girls, become fans of the sport. A lot of them, at least who i've talked to, are actually derby fans themselves.

I know they get busted on a lot for the outfits, but even many derby fans(and skaters for that metter) are in it for the short shorts, or fishnets, and tight pants. They gotta fill the seats, and sex sells. That being said, LFL has INSANE workout/practice schedules, to the point of ridiculousness. I only wish i got paid to
workout like that. It is truely beastmode.
Rumor has it,that some girls want to branch off and start independent leagues following in the layout of derby.

Is this headline meant to be sarcastic? Those new uniforms are a joke. So is the Jezabel article. The LFL treats its athletes pretty crappily- they don't even get a salary, just a very small percentage of the ticket sales, which can amount to less than minimum wage, hence a few lawsuits that have been filed... It isnt fair that women who want to play competative, full-contact sports shold have to wear these humiliating outfits and can't even get paid a living wage. This is just another sad defeat disguised as a win for female athletes.
